Learning from China and smartphone/tablet access

Thanks to the always-excellent Ben Evans for linking to this.

I have my own take-aways:

  • You're app needs to have ways to socialise (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc). "55% of top 1000 apps provide links to Chineses Social Medial services....app content sharing has tripled in past six months"
  • Fastest growing categories look remarkably similar to all the reports coming from European and US operators.
  • The mess of Android fragmentation just reminds me of the early 2000's when Nokia/Sony/etc had countless phones to choose from. But none of them focused on one quality target. I suggest that might be leaving Samsung especially open to someone coming in with a high-quality, cheap, phone that surpasses their devices (a Chinese manufacturer perhaps?).
