What's the equivalent for bike theft?

Thefts involving smartphones have declined dramatically in three major cities since manufacturers began implementing "kill switches" that allow the phones to be turned off remotely if they are stolen, authorities said on Tuesday.

Considering bike theft has a definite impact, and most people are aware of someone who's had a bike stolen in recent years, there has to be a solution invented by now that exists?

The survey found that one-in-six people who had their bike stolen do not return to cycling. 

And some 26pc of those reduce their cycling habits as a result.
