Laying down a bet: Telcos move to public cloud
After spotting the tweet below, I thought it was time to lay down a marker around what I believe:
In short, a lot of telco systems are going to move to the cloud. It is absolutely inevitable to my eyes that much of IT systems will go: too much of it is ‘bursty’ so why keep all those servers on-premise, and just pay for what you need. The cost differential will be just too hard to ignore. What will start out with certain carriers migrating over certain systems to test will make it too hard to ignore from a financial perspective, and open the floodgates.
In addition, on the ‘network’ side, a proportion of this will also move. Carriers like Dish are already demonstrating the final solution.
